Patiala, August 4:- On the occasion of International Scarf Day, Scout-Guides, NCC Cadets and NSS Volunteers of Government Girls Senior Secondary School, Old Police Lines and Veer Haqiqat Rai Model Senior Secondary School were given detailed information about the importance of scarf or triangular bandage and its use in emergencies.
Mrs. Ravinder Kaur Sidhu, Training Commissioner of Bharat Scout and Guide and Mr. Kaka Ram Verma, Retired Training Supervisor of Red Cross Society, said that the scarf or triangular bandage proves to be a very important aid for Scout-Guides, Junior and Youth Red Cross, Army, NDRF, doctors and nurses all over the world to save lives during emergencies, stop the bleeding of the injured, cover the head, support the broken limb, prepare temporary stretchers and safely rescue the victims trapped in gas, smoke, water or debris.
They said that the importance of the scarf was highlighted by the founder of the International Scout-Guide Movement, Lieutenant General Lord Baden Powell of England, while Swiss surgeons Dr. Mathias Meyer and Dr. Friedrich Esmark effectively adopted the use of the triangular bandage during wars, natural disasters and accidents.
He said that clothes like handkerchief, turban, chunni, patka, saree, shirt or dhoti can also be used as a triangular bandage to stop the bleeding of the injured, stabilize the broken limb, save people trapped in gas, smoke, water or debris and if necessary, a temporary stretcher can also be prepared. On this occasion, the school principal Mrs. Sarla Bhatnagar and State Awardee Principal Mrs. Mandeep Kaur Antal along with the teachers thanked Ravinder Kaur Sidhu and Kaka Ram Verma and said that at present, there is a need to organize regular training camps to provide life-saving training to students, teachers, employees and social service volunteers through activities like NSS, NCC, Scout-Guide, Junior and Youth Red Cross, so that precious lives can be saved in emergency situations.
