Hoshiarpur:- Under the National Child Health Programme (RBSK) run by the Health Department Punjab, the timely identification and proper referral by the RBSK team of Block Paldi has made successful and completely free treatment of a 5-year-old child suffering from Congenital Heart Disease (CHD). This success shows that children can be saved from serious diseases with regular health check-ups, timely identification and proper referral.
During the regular health check-up of children aged 0 to 6 years at the Anganwadi Center of village Maili, the RBSK team of Block Paldi identified the problem of CHD in 5-year-old Lakhwinder Singh, son of Hoshiar Singh and mother Anuradha. The child was sent to the district hospital for further examination, from where he was referred to PGI Chandigarh as per the advice of the specialist doctors. The child underwent successful surgery and treatment completely free of cost under the RBSK scheme at PGI. After the treatment, the child's health has improved significantly and he is now leading a healthy life.
Civil Surgeon Dr. Mandeep Kamal said that under the National Child Health Programme, children from birth to 18 years are treated completely free of cost in specialist institutions by timely identifying congenital defects, diseases, nutritional deficiencies and developmental problems. He said that under this scheme, the government also bears the cost of expensive surgery and treatment of needy children. He appealed to the parents to get their children regularly checked so that any disease can be identified and treated on time.
District Immunization Officer Dr. Seema Garg said that RBSK Regular screening under is proving to be very effective for the health protection of children. He said that by timely identifying CHD and other serious diseases, needy children are referred to higher health institutions, where their treatment is done under RBSK without any financial burden. He appealed to the parents to get their children regularly checked and cooperate fully with the RBSK team. Dr. Shaminderjit Kaur, Dr. Vikramjit, Dr. Savita and Pharmacist Davinder Kaur of the RBSK team of Block Paldi have made a special contribution in this success. The Health Department, while praising the work of the team, said that such success stories not only show the effectiveness of the RBSK program, but also motivate other parents to get their children checked on time.
