Nawanshahr, June 23:- To keep children safe from a serious and disabling disease like polio, the District Administration Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar will run the National Pulse Polio Campaign with full dedication from June 28 to 30, 2026. Under this campaign, a target has been set to administer polio drops to 56,421 children in the age group of 0 to 5 years in the district.
This information was given by Deputy Commissioner Gulpreet Singh Aulakh while presiding over the meeting of the Pulse Polio District Task Force at the District Administrative Complex. He instructed the Health Department and all other partner departments to work in coordination and with full responsibility to make the campaign a success.
The Deputy Commissioner said that no negligence will be tolerated in this war against polio and it should be ensured that no child of the district is deprived of taking polio drops. He said that to create maximum awareness among the people, a special awareness campaign should be jointly launched by all the departments so that every parent brings their child to the polio booth.
He said that on June 28, 226 polio booths will be set up across the district, where polio drops will be administered to children. After this, 451 door-to-door teams will reach those children on June 29 and 30, who could not reach the booths on the first day.
Apart from this, 16 transit teams will be deployed at bus stands and railway stations, while 7 mobile teams will go to slums, brick kilns, factories and other high-risk areas to administer polio drops to children.
During the meeting, Civil Surgeon Dr. Gurinderjit Singh said that 45 supervisors have been deployed to monitor the campaign. During this, 1,38,015 households, 18 grain markets, 13 factories, 55 brick kilns and 81 high-risk areas will be covered.
He said that although India has been polio-free for the last 15 years, there is a need to strengthen continuous vigilance and regular vaccination due to the presence of polio virus in neighboring countries Pakistan and Afghanistan. He appealed to parents to administer polio drops to all their children between the ages of 0 and 5 and contribute to making this national campaign a success.
