Hoshiarpur:- Under the guidelines of the Health and Family Welfare Department Punjab, District Drug Rehabilitation Center Hoshiarpur organized an awareness program on the occasion of National No Smoking Day at Sonalika International Tractor Limited, Nasrala. This program was organized under the supervision of Factory Manager Mr. Rajnish Sadal and Dr. Nitesh (Medical Officer In-charge). Deputy Medical Commissioner Dr. Swati Shimar was specially present on this occasion.
Along with him, Medical Officer In-charge District Drug Rehabilitation Center Hoshiarpur Dr. Jasleen Kaur, Counselor Prashant Adia, Sandeep Kumari, Tehreen Basra (Fellow) and Dr. Shipra were also present. Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Medical Commissioner Dr. Swati Shimar said that it is very important to motivate the youth to stay away from tobacco and other drugs as they are very harmful to health. She said that tobacco use can cause cancer, heart diseases, respiratory diseases and many other serious diseases.
Tobacco harms not only the user but also his family and the people around him. She said that with the support of the Punjab Government and the district administration, various certificate and vocational courses are conducted to re-establish the drug addicts in the society so that they can stand on their own feet and lead a self-reliant life.
Dr. Swati also said that the Ministry of Health, Government of India has made available the Tele-Manas helpline number 14416 for drug addiction and mental health problems. By contacting this number, people can get online counseling and advice from experts.
