Hoshiarpur: Dr. Ajay Bagga—a 'Centurion Blood Donor' who has been associated with the blood donation movement for over forty years—states that if even just 1 percent of the population in any country, state, or region were to make blood donation an integral part of their lives, it would go a long way in helping to keep alive the flickering flames of life of patients admitted to hospitals who are suffering due to a shortage of blood.
In a press release issued here today, Dr. Ajay Bagga—Patron of the Punjab Chapter of the Indian Society of Blood Transfusion and Immunohematology—stated that healthy individuals between the ages of 18 and 65, who weigh more than 45 kilograms and have a hemoglobin level exceeding 12.5 grams, are eligible to donate blood every three months.

He noted that, based on scientific research, it has been established that individuals who donate blood regularly face an 88 percent lower risk of heart disease. Furthermore, the risk of severe ailments such as cancer—specifically cancers of the stomach, throat, lungs, and intestines—is significantly reduced, while the body continuously generates new blood cells. Iron levels remain balanced in blood donors. Dr. Bagga added that blood donation keeps the liver healthy, detoxifies the body, and boosts immunity.
Dr. Bagga emphasized that the act of donating blood brings peace of mind and saves the lives of individuals battling for survival due to blood shortages. He remarked that making blood donation an integral part of one's life not only reduces the incidence of diseases but also leads to an immense increase in the blessings received from others. Moreover, blood donation stands as one of the noblest endeavors for strengthening communal harmony and national unity.
