Haroli/Una, May 27 (Rajveer Chopra):- Madan Lal, a 50-year-old resident of the Tahliwal Nagar Panchayat area, has been battling paralysis for approximately the past 18 months. According to reports, he suffered a sudden paralytic stroke at home just before leaving for work; since that incident, he has remained continuously bedridden. The family's financial situation has deteriorated to such an extent that sustaining their daily household expenses has now become a struggle.
On Wednesday, Ward No. 6 Councilor Ajay Sehgal—along with Ward No. 4 Councilor Raj Kumar, Ward No. 7 Councilor Anu Bala, Ashok Kumar Rana, Harish Kumar, Rinku Sehgal, and Achhar Singh Khalsa—visited Madan Lal's home to inquire about the family's well-being. During the visit, Councilor Ajay Sehgal presented Madan Lal with a wheelchair and assured the family of every possible assistance. Meanwhile, Rinku Sehgal—associated with the "Sarbat Ka Bhala" organization—initiated a program to provide the family with monthly food rations. Additionally, those present collectively contributed financial aid to the family.
Madan Lal's wife, Sushma Devi, stated that she has visited numerous hospitals and doctors in pursuit of her husband's treatment, yet they have received no relief thus far. She lamented that the family's entire life savings have been exhausted on medical treatment, making it increasingly difficult to cover their children's educational expenses and manage household bills.
Sushma Devi further explained that while her son and daughter attend a government school, the fact that their ration card falls under the APL (Above Poverty Line) category prevents them from accessing the benefits of various government welfare schemes. She noted that an application for the 'Sahara Pension' scheme was submitted a year ago, yet the pension payments have still not commenced to this day.
She also revealed that although doctors at the Una Hospital had issued a disability certificate certifying Madan Lal's 75% disability approximately a year ago, the family is now being forced to make repeated rounds of government offices in an attempt to obtain a new, updated certificate. On one hand, the patient remains in a critical condition, while on the other, bureaucratic government procedures have only compounded the family's distress. On this occasion, Councilor Ajay Sehgal and others stated that assisting poor and needy families is a responsibility of society. They urged the administration and the government to expedite the process for Madan Lal's better medical treatment and the 'Sahara Pension' scheme, in order to provide relief to his family.
