Hoshiarpur, August 1:- Rotary Eye Bank and Corneal Transplantation Society under the leadership of President J.B. Bahl successfully completed the eye and body donation process of Jaswinder Kaur, a resident of Tera Asra Sewa Ghar, Dashmesh Nagar, after her death, fulfilling her last wish.
President J.B. Bahl said that as soon as the information about Jaswinder Kaur's death was received, Thind Eye Hospital was contacted, where Dr. Pradeep Kumar and his team members Amanpreet Singh and Gurpreet Singh successfully completed the eye donation process. After that, her body was sent to Rajiv Gandhi Government Postgraduate Ayurvedic College, Paprola (District Kangra, Himachal Pradesh) for the purpose of research and medical education, where Dr. Rachna, Head of the Department of Organs and Organs, Ram Mohan Kushwaha and his team accepted the body with full respect.
On this occasion, the Secretary of the Society Prof. Daljit Singh said that 38 destitute elderly people are currently living in Tera Asra Sewa Ghar and all of them have filled the pledge of eye donation and body donation. He said that this is a very inspiring and commendable initiative for the society.
The Chairman of the Society and a prominent social worker Sanjeev Arora said that this is the third posthumous body donation by Tera Asra Sewa Ghar, which has been sent to Rajiv Gandhi Government Postgraduate Ayurvedic College, Paprola for research and medical education. He said that the Society has so far donated the bodies of 32 deceased persons to various medical colleges for research work. Apart from this, more than 250 people have registered for body donation and 4,169 visually impaired people have got new light through cornea (pupil) transplant.
Sanjeev Arora said that eye donation and body donation are such great donations which are possible only after death. Therefore, every person should fill the pledge during his lifetime, so that there is no obstacle later. Rajinder Kaur, the director of Tera Asra Sewa Ghar, said that the helpless elderly are served with a selfless spirit in the organization. Their accommodation, food and other necessary facilities are provided with the support of the society. She said that it was the heartfelt wish of Jaswinder Kaur that her body should be donated after her death, which was realized with the support of the Rotary Eye Bank and Corneal Transplantation Society.
