Ambala, January 21:- The opposition has intensified over the new electricity tariffs implemented by the Haryana government from April 1, 2025. Haryana Congress senior leader and MP from Sirsa, Bibi Selja, has termed the fixed charges as anti-people and said that this decision of the government is going to put unnecessary financial burden especially on the middle class and domestic consumers.
Issuing a statement here, Bibi Selja said that charging fixed charges despite the low electricity consumption is completely unfair. The government has imposed a new burden like "forced recovery" in the name of electricity on families struggling with rising expenses like inflation, education and health. Bibi Selja said that this policy is not based on consumption but is a direct attack on the pockets of the public.
Bibi Selja also questioned the government's "Har Ghar Solar" scheme, saying that on the one hand, the government is promising free electricity and on the other hand, thousands of rupees are being charged as fixed charges every month from consumers who have installed solar systems at their own expense. Bibi Selja said that solar consumers are reducing the burden on the state's power infrastructure by generating electricity themselves, despite this, charging them a fixed charge shows the policy failure and double standards of the government.
Surprisingly, if the electricity production of a solar consumer increases and consumption decreases, then he does not get any benefit. That month, the consumer is forced to pay the full bill with the fixed charge. She has warned that such policies will discourage solar energy.
Bibi Selja has demanded that the fixed charge imposed on domestic consumers be withdrawn immediately and consumers who have installed solar systems be completely exempted from the fixed charge.
