Hoshiarpur- Former cabinet minister and senior BJP leader Teekhan Sood has issued a press note strongly condemning the Punjab government's decision to increase property tax by 5% on all types of property from April 1, 2025. He said that this decision will prove to be an even bigger blow to the middle class, which is already suffering from the effects of inflation.
He reminded that during the Akali-BJP government, the people were brought into a rational property tax era by getting rid of the illegal house tax system of the British era, which the Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party themselves had opposed and demanded its repeal. These parties had also staged agitations over property tax and claimed that this tax would be repealed when their government comes to power.
Teekhan Sood said that even after the Congress and Aam Aadmi Party came to power, this tax was increased, due to which the common people, especially the middle class, are suffering more. He said that usually the middle class people bear the brunt of property tax the most, and now this increase will worsen their economic condition.
He also said that the government has already put a heavy burden on the urban population by increasing sewerage, water supply, fire NOC, CLU, map fee, license fee etc. Now the property tax increase will make it difficult for the people to live.
Teekhan Sood has demanded that the government immediately withdraw this increase.
Targeting the Aam Aadmi Party, he said that the IRS head of the Aam Aadmi Party, who had promised to save Rs 54,000 crore from corruption every year and invest it on development, where did he go?
