Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar, November 27: The District Red Cross Society, under the leadership of Deputy Commissioner Mrs. Komal Mittal, today organized a blood donation camp dedicated to the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji.
Giving information, Secretary Harbans Singh said that 54 units of blood were collected during this camp held by the District Red Cross Society in collaboration with Vishwas Foundation at the District Administrative Complex, Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar today.
He said that SDM Mohali Damandeep Kaur inaugurated the camp and appreciated the blood donors for this unique work by giving them badges.
Among the prominent blood donors on this occasion, Mandeep Singh (Dairy Department) donated blood for the 50th time. Narayan Sharma Inspector Civil Defence, Jagdeep Singh Superintendent DC Office and Secretary Harbans Singh also contributed in the blood donation.
The team of Civil Hospital, Phase 6, Mohali that collected blood included Dr. Sanya Sharma, Gagandeep, Varinder Kumar, Babita, Parminder Kaur and Red Cross team, Harmeet Oberoi (Life Member).
On this occasion, Mr. Harbans Singh Secretary Red Cross himself donated blood and informed that there is a misconception among people that blood donation causes weakness in the body, but blood donation does not cause any weakness, but everyone should donate blood once in 90 days. Blood donation helps the needy as well as keeps the body healthy. Blood donation is a noble act and comes in the service of humanity. It needs to be made a people's movement, because blood cannot be prepared from any medicine etc. but it can be taken from the person himself as per his wish.
The general public was made aware of the activities being run by the Red Cross such as First Aid Training, Patient Care Attendant Service, Jan Aushadhi Stores facilities. Finally, the Red Cross team appealed to the general public that maximum blood donation camps should be organized and if any organization or NGO needs any support to organize the camp, then it can contact the Red Cross branch. The Red Cross branch will always be ready to help the organization/NGO.
