Chandigarh, September 15:- Haryana Chief Minister Shri Nayab Singh Saini said that today is a historic day for Haryana. The signing of the MoU among six states regarding the Kishau Multipurpose Project is an important step towards moving forward with this long-pending project.
Chief Minister Shri Nayab Singh Saini was speaking to reporters after a meeting on the Kishau Multipurpose Project held in New Delhi on Tuesday under the chairmanship of Union Home and Cooperation Minister Shri Amit Shah. The meeting was attended by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Shri Yogi Adityanath, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Shri Pushkar Singh Dhami, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Shri Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and Delhi Chief Minister Smt. Rekha Gupta, along with senior officials of the concerned states. Union Jal Shakti Minister Shri C.R. Patil was also present at the meeting.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Chief Minister Shri Nayab Singh Saini said that important decisions were taken at this significant meeting of the six states. With the initiative of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and the active efforts of Union Home and Cooperation Minister Shri Amit Shah, the way has been cleared for building consensus among the states on this long-pending issue. He especially expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah for this important initiative.
He also thanked Union Jal Shakti Minister Shri C.R. Patil and said that he had continuously worked to accelerate the Kishau Project by coordinating with the states and concerned departments. The signing of the MoU among the six states under the chairmanship of Shri Patil is a major achievement in this direction.
Haryana to Get Direct Benefit from Increased Water Availability in Yamuna
The Chief Minister said that Haryana has a 48 percent share of water in the Yamuna. Therefore, increased water availability in the Yamuna will directly benefit Haryana. Along with the Kishau Project, the Renuka Ji and Lakhwar projects are also important for Haryana. Construction work on both these projects is already underway, and work on the Kishau Project is also expected to begin soon.
Water Availability to Increase with All Three Projects
Shri Nayab Singh Saini said that Haryana’s water share from the Renuka Ji, Lakhwar and Kishau projects together will be approximately 1,143 MCM. The total water availability from these three projects will increase by 2,676 cusecs, of which 1,280 cusecs will be Haryana’s share.
Chief Minister Shri Nayab Singh Saini said that water is one of the most important requirements for the development of any state. With increasing population and development, the requirement for water will also increase in the coming times. In such a situation, the increased water availability from these projects will be very important not only for Haryana’s present needs but also for future generations.
He said that with consensus now emerging among the states on the long-pending Kishau Multipurpose Project, the way has been cleared for its implementation. Reaching consensus on important issues related to the project, including the distribution of water and electricity, is a positive step for all the concerned states.
Chief Minister Shri Nayab Singh Saini said that the project is being taken forward with the guidance of the Central Government and mutual cooperation among the states. He expressed hope that work on the Kishau Project would begin soon and Haryana would also benefit from it in the coming times.
