New Delhi, April 14 - Former Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina, who was deposed from the throne, has warned the country's interim President Muhammad Yunus after fresh warrants were issued against her that "if he plays with fire, his hands will also burn." Hasina alleged that Yunus is conspiring with foreign forces to destroy Bangladesh.
The former Prime Minister of Bangladesh said in a fresh address to the supporters of her party Awami League on social media, "All the footprints of the freedom movement of Bangladesh are being erased. The Mukti Jodhas (freedom fighters) are being disrespected. We had built Mukti Jodha complexes in all districts to keep their footprints alive, but they are being burned. Is Dr. "Will Younis be able to justify this?" Hasina warned Younis, saying, "If you play with fire, it will burn you too."
"That power-hungry, money-hungry, selfish person hatched a foreign conspiracy and used money from abroad to destroy the country," Hasina alleged. The BNP (Bangladesh Nationalist Party) and Jamaat-e-Islami are carrying out political assassinations and harassing (Awami League leaders)," Hasina alleged.
An arrest warrant was issued against Hasina in Dhaka on Saturday last week. The prime minister, who has been in exile in India since August 5, 2024, after her government fell in Bangladesh following unprecedented student protests over the reservation dispute, said the end of the Awami League rule had given Bangladesh an "industrial shock." "Thousands of factories have closed since then," she said.
Businesses linked to Awami League leaders have been burnt down. Industries are dying. Hotels, hospitals, everything is being destroyed.” In her speech, Hasina also referred to student activist Abu Sayeed, who was the face of last year’s student protests. Sayeed died during the protests last year. Meanwhile, Hasina also accused the Yunus-led regime of giving up hope for hardworking Bangladeshis. “Top doctors and surgeons have been dismissed. Political workers have been given police uniforms. Are they eligible for the job? No rules have been adopted. And the BNP is busy looting. They are destroying the country. Thousands of workers are unemployed. Farmers are suffering. Hardworking people are losing their livelihood. They are killing human beings at every step. I cannot let this continue,” Hasina said.
