This campaign was started by releasing awareness material across the district with the cooperation of Civil Surgeon Dr. Pawan Kumar Shagotra Vallo District Vaccination Officer Dr. Seema Garg, Assistant Civil Surgeon Dr. DP Singh, District Family Welfare Officer Dr. Ranjit Singh, Deputy Mass Media Officer Ramandeep Kaur, District Accounts Officer Gurdeep Singh, Superintendent Davinder Bhatti and Vaccination Assistant Navpreet Kaur.
Sharing information on this occasion, Civil Surgeon Dr. Pawan Kumar said that an intensive care campaign is being run till July 31. Under the diarrhea prevention campaign, ASHA workers of the Health Department will conduct a door-to-door survey and will also provide small ORS to the children. Packets of these will be distributed.
During this time, information will also be given about the importance of mother's milk. He told that during this campaign, teams of RBSK NDA and health department employees will tell about the health precautions to be given to children in schools.
The civil surgeon told that due to summer and rainy season and lack of cleanliness, elderly people and especially small children (up to five years) suffer from vomiting and diarrhea. If treatment is not done in time, it can prove fatal especially for children. Therefore, the main objective of this campaign is to reduce deaths due to diarrhea to zero. Various activities will be done during this time.
In all health institutions, Anganwadi centers and schools, demonstrations will be done about the scientific method of washing hands that diarrhea can be controlled only by hand hygiene. District Vaccination Officer Dr. Seema Garg told that if a child gets diarrhea, he should be given ORS immediately. And it should be continued till the diarrhea stops. Even if the diarrhea stops, give zinc tablets to the child for 14 days.
Unnecessary antibiotics should also be avoided. During diarrhea, treatment with ORS and zinc helps the child recover quickly. Coconut water, lassi or other liquids can also be given to avoid dehydration. ANM or Asha should be contacted for proper management of diarrhea. Dr. Seema Garg said that if serious symptoms are seen in the child, immediately take the child to the nearest hospital.
If shown to a specialist doctor, proper treatment can be done in time. She said that during this campaign, ORS Zinc Corners have also been set up in group health institutions. Where people will be motivated by demonstrating the method of making ORS solution.
