SAS Nagar, April 18 - With the aim of removing songs promoting drugs from YouTube, Professor Panditrao Dharenwar, a sincere servant of the Punjabi language and social scientist, today staged a protest in front of the Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar Homeland Building (where many Punjabi artists reside). Professor Rao, who was born in Karnataka, also recited Japji Sahib in his mother tongue Kannada on the occasion.
He called on all Punjabi artists to remove all their songs promoting drugs from YouTube. He said that instead of writing songs that mislead the youth, they should focus on composing songs that promote the progress of their society and mother tongue.
He said that an artist may earn some money by becoming famous for a while with songs that mislead the youth, but in the long run he will be left behind because after the next one or two generations he will be forgotten.
He advised the artists that they should take guidance from evergreen artists like Surinder Kaur, Prakash Kaur, Lal Chand Yamla, Asa Singh Mastana, who are still heard in families, and try to become popular in the Punjabi society around the world by creating good literature.
