
Patel Memorial National College celebrates National Mathematics Day
Rajpura, 06 February- The Department of Mathematics, local Patel Memorial National College, Rajpura, under the supervision of Principal Dr. Chandra Prakash Gandhi and able guidance of Head of Department Dr. Vandana Gupta and Program Coordinator Dr. Gurninder Singh, celebrated National Mathematics Day (NMD)-2024 on 4-5 February, 2025 in collaboration with IQAC, supported by PSCST, NCSTC and DST GOI. The day was celebrated on the occasion of the birth anniversary of the great mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan, whose contribution to mathematics will continue to inspire generations of mathematicians and scientists.

The day was celebrated on the occasion of the birth anniversary of the great mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan, whose contribution to mathematics will continue to inspire generations of mathematicians and scientists.
Prof. Madhu Rakka, Senior Scientist, National Academy of Sciences, India and Punjab University, Chandigarh was present as the Chief Guest at the event. Principal Dr. Chandra Prakash welcomed the Chief Guest, while Head of Department Dr. Vandana Gupta congratulated Prof. Rakka for his impressive achievements, including the Young Scientist Award from the Indian National Science Academy (INSA). Prof. Prof. Rakka, while addressing the gathering, presented his valuable insights on cryptography, using real-life examples to illustrate its importance in today's world, which inspired the students to explore mathematics.
On the previous day, the department had organized a number of activities including poster making, essay writing and quiz competitions, all focused on the life and achievements of Ramanujan. These events challenged the mathematical skills of the students, fostered creativity and encouraged a deeper appreciation for mathematics. Prof. Rakka distributed prizes to the winners. In the Essay Writing Competition, Darshan B.Sc. (CSM)-1, Monika B.Sc. (CS)-3, Arshdeep Kaur B.Sc. (NM)-3 secured first, second, third positions respectively.
In the Quiz and Puzzle Competition, Arshdeep Kaur B.Sc. (NM)-3, Naina B.Com-3, Rupinder Kaur B.Sc. (CS)-1 secured first, second, third positions respectively. In poster making competition Nitika BSc-3, Karanpreet Singh BA-1, Ankita BSc(CSM)-1 secured first, second, third positions respectively. Dr. Gurninder Singh presented vote of thanks while Prof. Deepika Kathuria conducted the stage brilliantly.
Dr. Gagandeep, Dr. Harpreet, Prof. Geetika and Prof. Deepika also coordinated the event while many faculty members from different departments also graced the event with their presence.
