Patiala- Taking action in the Colonel Bath case, the Patiala Police has recommended strict disciplinary action against the four accused inspectors and two other officers, including reduction in service and bar on promotions.
According to information received from the officials, a three-year reduction in service and no pay hike for this period has been recommended for these officers. “These police officers will not get any promotion for three years and there will be no increase in their pay either,” an official said.
The police have also made it clear in their investigation recommendations that all these officers will remain suspended and their posting will be done only outside Patiala.
It is worth mentioning that the Punjab and Haryana High Court had already handed over the investigation of the case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the CBI has registered an FIR in this matter. Despite the passage of more than four months since the incident, no accused policeman has been arrested so far.
Meanwhile, Patiala SSP Varun Sharma confirmed that action has been recommended based on the findings of the investigation conducted by an SP-level officer. He said, "The accused can respond to the recommendations of the investigation report.".
Patiala police had earlier registered an FIR against three inspectors Harry Boparai, Roni Singh, and Harjinder Dhillon, along with other police personnel under sections 109, 310, 155(2), 117(2), 126(2), and 351(2). However, the name of the fourth inspector was later added to the FIR under sections 299 and 191 of the BNS.
