Garhshankar, January 16 - Students and staff of Government Senior Secondary School Dhamai together remembered the country's first female teacher Savitri Bai Phule and Bibi Fatima Sheikh and discussed this topic.
During this, various staff members Mukesh Kumar, Kulwinder Kaur, Madhu Sambiyal and Balkar Singh Maghania addressed the gathering and said that the work done by Savitri Bai Phule for the education of girls with the help of her husband Jyotiba Phule's progressive thinking and her friends Usman Sheikh and Fatima Sheikh can never be forgotten.
They said that when Jyotiba Phule tried to educate Savitri Bai, opposition to her started from home itself and she was thrown out of the house. Jyotiba Phule's friend Usman Sheikh and his sister Fatima Sheikh gave shelter to the couple in their house and opened the first school for girls in Usman Sheikh's house and spread the message of Hindu-Muslim unity and brotherhood, which was not liked by the orthodox people.
