
Registration of orphanages run for orphans and helpless children in the district is mandatory
Hoshiarpur: Deputy Commissioner Komal Mittal said that it is mandatory to get all orphanages run for orphans, helpless and helpless children in the district registered under Section 41 (1) of the Juvenile Justice Act 2015. Strict action will be taken against the orphanage operators under Section 42 for violation of this Act, which can lead to imprisonment up to one year, a fine of Rs. one lakh or both.

The Deputy Commissioner said that under the Juvenile Justice Act 2015, such orphanages which are run by government or non-government organizations and provide shelter, food and care facilities to orphans, helpless or helpless children between the ages of 0 and 18 years are required to be registered under Section 41 (1) of this Act. This provision is also applicable to children's homes whether or not receiving government grants.
The Deputy Commissioner said that for registration, the institutions will have to submit an application by filling Form 27 (Rules 21 (2) and 22 (2)) under the Juvenile Justice (Model) Rules 2016. After the inspection of the concerned children's home by the District Level Inspection Committee, the proposal for registration will be sent to the State Government. He said that after the application, the State Government issues temporary registration for a period of 6 months.
After complete verification of the documents, the children's homes will be registered permanently for 3 years. Komal Mittal said that if any non-governmental organization is running children's homes without registration, then its information should be immediately given to the Deputy Commissioner's office or District Child Protection Unit Hoshiarpur (phone number 01882-291839).
