
Banks of the district disbursed loans worth Rs 9278.90 crore under the loan scheme for the year 2024-25: Nikas Kumar.
Hoshiarpur- To review the performance of banks in the district, the leading bank of the district, Punjab National Bank, held a meeting of the District Advisory Committee and District Level Review Committee under the chairmanship of Additional Deputy Commissioner Nikas Kumar. Chief Manager of District Lead Bank Chetan Joshi, LDO RBI Manu Bhardwaj, DDM NABARD Rajan Chhabra, representatives of various banks and officers of other departments were present in the meeting.

The Additional Deputy Commissioner said that under the loan scheme for the year 2024-25, a total loan of Rs 9278.90 crore was given by various banks of the district till March 2025, while the target was Rs 13388.56 crore. Out of this, a loan of Rs 5998.22 crore was given to the priority sector and a loan of Rs 3280.68 crore was given to the non-priority sector.
In the priority sector, Rs 3371.28 crore was given to agriculture, Rs 2458.97 crore to non-agriculture and Rs 166.10 crore to other priority sectors. Speaking on the need to increase the CD ratio, Nikas Kumar asked the banks to focus in this direction so that more and more people, especially educated unemployed youth and people from weaker sections of the society, can raise their standard of living by getting loans and starting economic business.
The Additional Deputy Commissioner stressed on providing loans to as many self-help groups as possible from the banks. He also asked the banks to inform the people about various schemes and speed up the process of loan distribution under government programs like agriculture and small scale industries, service sector, Pradhan Mantri Rojgar Srijan Karyakram, National Urban Livelihood Mission, Pradhan Mantri Swanidhi, Dairy Tie-up Scheme.
He asked the banks to provide loans to as many poor people as possible under the DRI scheme so that their income can increase and their standard of living can improve. He appealed to the banks to get as many poor people as possible insured under the Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana and Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana.
The Additional Deputy Commissioner said that the amount deposited in banks in Hoshiarpur district, which was Rs 44422 crore in March 2024, increased to Rs 47756 crore in March 2025. Similarly, the total amount of loans given by banks, which was Rs 13369 crore in March 2024, increased to Rs 13320 crore in March 2025.
He requested the bank officials to provide maximum loans to new entrepreneurs so that new industries can be established in the district and maximum employment opportunities can be provided to the people. He thanked the district administration for providing maximum support to the banks. Officers of District Industries Department, SRL/NULM etc. and DCOs of all banks attended the meeting.
