Nawanshahr - According to the guidelines of Civil Surgeon Dr. Jaspreet Kaur, in view of the World Anti-Leprosy Day, under the "touch awareness" campaign being conducted from January 30, 2024 to February 12, 2024, District Leprosy Officer Dr. Varinder Kumar, today, Doaba Leprosy Ashram, Visited Nawanshahr.
On this occasion, District Health Department, Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar distributed 30 self-care kits and 59 pairs of boots to persons suffering from leprosy. Speaking on this occasion, District Leprosy Officer Dr Varinder Kumar said that under the National Leprosy Eradication fortnight being celebrated till February 12, common people are being made aware not to discriminate against leprosy patients and to prevent leprosy. He said that leprosy is not spread by touching, shaking hands, playing with or working with a person suffering from leprosy. He said that leprosy is curable and its treatment is possible only if its symptoms are identified in the initial stage and treatment is started immediately. He said that society should always treat people suffering from leprosy or any other serious disease well so that the affected person can overcome the disease by becoming mentally strong. Dr. Kumar said that paler than the skin color, one or more spots/spots that are numb and dry, no sweating, itching, burning or stinging can be leprosy. He said that on the part affected by leprosy, the patient is not aware of any kind of injury or cold, due to which the body becomes disabled. The District Leprosy Officer said that leprosy is neither a hereditary disease nor a divine curse, rather this disease is a minor disease caused by an organism. He said that the diagnosis and treatment of leprosy is available free of charge in all government hospitals and health centers. Its treatment time is 6 months or 12 months.
