Chandigarh, May 28- A 40-year-old Corona positive person died this morning at the Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32. The patient, a resident of Firozabad in UP, was referred to Chandigarh from Ludhiana after testing positive for Covid.
He was kept in isolation after being admitted to the Covid ward of the hospital. Two ventilators have been kept in this ward for any emergency needs. This is the first Covid positive case in Chandigarh. However, the hospital has not yet clarified whether it was a case of the new JN1 variant of Corona or not.
GMCH 32 Director Dr. Ashok Attri had earlier said that all the necessary data has been submitted in the required format and the patient is being closely monitored. Dr. Atri had initially assured the public that there was nothing to worry about, but after the patient's death, it is now being taken as a serious sign.
The health department is expected to take immediate action after the Covid death. The department will intensify surveillance and precautionary measures to prevent further spread of Covid.
