On April 14, the 134th birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Babasaheb Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar Ji was celebrated across the country. His invaluable contribution was remembered in various events across the country. Even today, he is known as the main architect of the Indian Constitution, a social reformer and a champion of the rights of Dalits. He fought against caste division, promoted social equality, and played a major role in shaping the democratic structure of India. He advocated social justice and human rights. Dr. Ambedkar was the man who changed 3000 years of history in 30 years.
He ended the monopoly of the golden castes in education, army, trade and social hierarchy who considered themselves above the Shudras or untouchables. He broke the caste traditions for the Dalits, changed the mentality of the society towards them, asked them to get educated and fight for their rights. He gave equal rights to everyone by creating a constitution for the country. He succeeded in improving the social condition of the untouchables, Indian women, and workers. Nowadays, all the political classes that believe in constitutional values use Dr. Ambedkar as a symbol of justice and social awakening. Especially during elections, almost all the political parties use the name of Babasaheb. His name is used to influence the votes of the Dalit society. Today, statues and memorials of Babasaheb are seen in every small and big city and town. Institutions and societies are being run in his name by his followers worldwide. Dr. Ambedkar's statue is installed at Columbia University. Similarly, his statue has been installed at Koyasan University in Japan. If we talk about Punjab, the economic condition of the Dalits and backward classes here is better than that of the Dalits in the rest of the country. The population of these classes is also sufficient here, which always plays a decisive role in influencing the victory or defeat of political parties.
Today, more than 77 years have passed since our country became independent, but even today the people of the Dalit class have not made much progress in the fields of social, economic and education. 80 percent of the people of these classes are still living in rural areas. Economic exploitation is still a bitter truth. The majority are workers and marginal cultivators. Today, the majority are under debt and are working as bonded laborers to repay their loans. Although some government and thousands of non-government organizations are running across the country in the name of Baba Saheb Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar Ji for the rights of the Dalit class.
Punjab, because it is an economically prosperous state and the standard of living of the Scheduled Castes and other backward castes is much better, many organizations have been formed here in the name of Baba Saheb. But it is a matter of great sorrow that at the grassroots level, the organizations are hardly doing anything for the welfare of their community.
I do not consider all the organizations guilty, but the founders of most of the societies, organizations have neither read Baba Saheb's struggle nor the literature he wrote. For them, only the name of Baba Saheb has become a source of livelihood. Most of the leaders of our classes gain power by taking our votes, but later their promises are limited to stages and manifestos.
Even today, the rights of the Dalit class are not fully protected. Even today, employees are falling victim to caste discrimination in offices. The need of the hour is that we, the educated class, should become the voice of the rest of the people with a sincere heart. This is Dr. B. R. It will be a right effort to preserve the legacy and thinking of Ambedkar ji.
