Tapa Mandi: A tragic incident has been reported from Canada, where a 26-year-old youth from Tapa Mandi, Lovepreet Singh, lost his life while attempting to save his friend from drowning in a canal. The deceased belonged to Tapa Mandi (Ghunnas Road) in Barnala district of Punjab.
According to reports, the incident occurred near the Lachine Canal in Montreal, Canada. Lovepreet Singh's friend reportedly slipped accidentally and fell into the canal. As soon as Lovepreet learned about the incident, he immediately jumped into the water to rescue his friend. Unfortunately, while trying to save him, Lovepreet was also swept away by the strong current and drowned.
After several hours of intensive rescue efforts, Canadian authorities recovered both men from the canal and rushed them to a hospital, where doctors declared them dead. The heartbreaking news has left the family of retired CRPF personnel Balvir Singh in deep shock and grief.
Lovepreet Singh, the only son of the family, had moved to Montreal, Canada, on a work permit around two-and-a-half years ago. He was working as a trailer truck driver for a company. After completing his Class 12 education, he had gone abroad to fulfill his parents' dreams and build a better future.
To send his son to Canada, his father, retired CRPF personnel Balvir Singh, had arranged nearly ?2.9 million (29 lakh) by selling about 1.75 acres of his own land, along with the family's total 2.5 acres of agricultural land. Following the death of their only son, his sister is inconsolable, and his parents' dreams have been shattered. Family members said Lovepreet had spoken to them over the phone just 10 days before the tragic incident.
