India and Indonesia Sign 20 Agreements in Jakarta
Jakarta: Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, "India supports peace in the Indo-Pacific region. All countries should abide by international rules, and sea routes must remain open for everyone." His remarks come at a time when several countries have expressed concerns over China's growing activities in the region.
During the meeting, Indonesian President Prabowo praised Prime Minister Modi, saying, "I take inspiration from your career." Speaking to applause, he added, "Many of the Modi government's schemes have been successful, so we are trying to adopt them. The good thing is that these initiatives are not protected by copyright."
India and Indonesia signed 20 agreements in Jakarta on Tuesday. The most significant was the BrahMos missile deal. Discussions between the two countries had been underway for the past four months. Under the agreement, India will supply additional units of the BrahMos missile system to Indonesia. With this, Indonesia has become the third country, after the Philippines and Vietnam, to purchase the BrahMos missile.
On Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Prambanan Temple, Indonesia's largest Hindu temple, which is more than 1,000 years old.
