Jinping May Attend BRICS Summit

New Delhi: Chinese President Xi Jinping may visit India to attend the BRICS summit. A bilateral meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Jinping is likely to take place during this visit.
If this meeting occurs, it will be the first bilateral dialogue between the two leaders in India since the Galwan violence of June 2020. Twenty Indian soldiers were martyred during the clash in the Galwan Valley of Eastern Ladakh. Later, China confirmed the deaths of four of its soldiers.
However, neither country has yet confirmed Jinping's visit to India. The Chinese Foreign Ministry stated on Thursday that it has no information regarding this matter. Jinping last visited India in 2019.

India is Hosting the BRICS Summit
India holds the BRICS presidency this year. BRICS is a group of major emerging economies. Its members include India, Russia, China, Brazil, and South Africa, alongside Egypt, Iran, Ethiopia, the UAE, and Indonesia.
Under India's presidency, meetings, ministerial-level conferences, and multi-level discussions are being organized in various cities throughout the year.
India's focus is on strengthening the voice of the 'Global South' (developing nations) and on areas such as economic cooperation, energy security, digital technology, counter-terrorism, and supply chain resilience. In short, the objective is to advance BRICS not merely as a political forum, but as a key platform for trade, investment, and development.
