20 People Killed in Fire on Cargo Ship at Chinese Port

Beijing, September 11:- A massive fire broke out on a foreign-flagged cargo ship that was docked for maintenance at Qingdao Beihai Shipyard in Shandong Province in eastern China. At least 20 people are reported to have been killed in the accident, with heavy loss of life and property. According to a news agency report, a total of 42 people were on board the ship, of whom 12 have been safely evacuated.
Chinese President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Qiang have issued instructions for an immediate search and rescue operation for the missing people, treatment of the injured and strict accountability of those responsible for the incident.
A foreign cargo ship docked for maintenance at the port of Beihai Shipbuilding Company Limited in Qingdao, Shandong Province, eastern China, suddenly caught fire at around 11:15 a.m. on Thursday.
According to China’s state-run Xinhua News Agency, the accident has caused heavy loss of life and property. However, the exact number of casualties and the cause of the fire have not yet been officially confirmed. It is also not clear whether the fire has been completely brought under control.
