New Delhi, June 27 - India has rejected a UN request to include an investigator to help in the investigation into the Air India plane crash that took place in Ahmedabad, Gujarat on June 12. Reuters quoted sources as saying that India will not allow it. Some safety experts had criticized it for delaying the analysis of black box data.
India rejects UN offer
Let us tell you that after the incident in which 260 people died in the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner crash in Ahmedabad on June 12, the UN aviation agency had offered India to provide one of its investigators to assist in the investigation.
Earlier, the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) had deployed investigators to help in some investigations, such as the investigation into the disappearance of a Malaysian plane in 2014 and then a Ukrainian jetliner in 2020. However, the agency was asked for assistance both times.
Reuters quoted sources as saying that ICAO had sought observer status for the investigator based in India, but Indian authorities rejected the offer. The news was first reported by Times Now.
Data downloaded from black boxes
India's Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) has not commented on this. India's Civil Aviation Ministry said on Thursday that investigators have downloaded the flight recorder data about two weeks after the accidents.
Earlier, safety experts had also raised questions about the lack of information about the investigation, including the status of the combined black box found on June 13 and the second set found on June 16.
When will the report be received?
Questions were also raised about whether the recorders will be read in India or the US? Earlier this week, an official from the Indian aviation ministry had said on condition of anonymity that the department is following all ICAO protocols. Let us tell you that most air accidents happen due to multiple reasons and the initial report is received about 30 days after the accident.
