New Delhi:- The opposition continued its protest against SIR in Parliament for the second consecutive day. As soon as the Lok Sabha proceedings began at 11 am, all the opposition MPs started raising slogans. The Speaker continued the Question Hour but the opposition kept raising slogans of vote thief - ouster for 20 minutes.
After this, the proceedings were first adjourned till 12 pm and then till 2 pm. Meanwhile, the opposition's protest and sloganeering continued in Rajya Sabha. Due to the continuous uproar, the Lok Sabha proceedings were adjourned till 11 am on December 3.
Earlier, the opposition protested in front of Makar Duar in the Parliament complex for the second consecutive day at 10:30 am. They demanded that the government immediately discuss the SIR.
Meanwhile, in the upper house, Rajya Sabha, the opposition parties also raised slogans on the SIR issue, due to which the proceedings of the House were adjourned till 2 pm after going on for about an hour. The protest continued continuously and amidst the sloganeering, the opposition party walked out.
Earlier today, MPs from the parties included in the opposition alliance India protested in the Parliament premises on Tuesday, demanding a discussion on the topic of electoral reforms during the winter session and opposing the Special Comprehensive Amendment (SIR). The MPs of the opposition parties gathered near the Makar Gate of the Parliament House and protested, which included Congress Parliamentary Party chief Sonia Gandhi, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, party general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, DMK leader TR Balu and other opposition leaders. The protesting opposition leaders raised slogans of 'Withdraw SIR'.
Meanwhile, Congress leader Renuka Chowdhury moved an adjournment motion in the Rajya Sabha to discuss the government's directives on installation of Sanchar Saathi app in new mobile handsets. In her adjournment notice, the MP said, "The right to privacy is an intrinsic aspect of the fundamental right to life and personal liberty guaranteed under Article 21 of the Constitution. The circular of the Department of Telecom directing smartphone manufacturers and importers to pre-load the "Sanchar Saathi" application in such a way that it cannot be deleted is a grave affront to this fundamental right."
It is worth noting that the opposition had created a ruckus in the Lok Sabha on Monday over the issue of Special Comprehensive Revision of Voter Lists, due to which the proceedings of the House were disrupted several times. The opposition parties had demanded in the all-party meeting and the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) meetings of both houses on Sunday that comprehensive electoral reforms, including the Special Comprehensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls, should be discussed during the winter session. The winter session of Parliament began on Monday and will end on December 19.
