Ratia, July 29: A wave of deep grief has swept through the Punjabi literary community following the sudden passing of Malvinder Shayar (Barnala)—a celebrated Ghazal writer, storyteller, literary critic, and multidisciplinary author.
Dr. Naib Singh Mander, Chairman of Lok Chetna Manch Haryana and India Head of OFC Canada, expressed deep sorrow, noting that Malvinder Shayar made significant contributions to Punjabi literature across genres such as Ghazal, *Hazal* (humorous verse), satire, mini-stories, poetry, and literary criticism. He was a writer characterized by simplicity, an affable nature, and a deep dedication to literature. He also worked with great diligence as a sub-editor for several newspapers.
Dr. Mander mentioned that Malvinder Shayar served as the Vice President of OFC Canada and was an active member of Lok Chetna Manch Haryana. His literary contributions and humble personality will always be remembered. His daughter is also an English writer with several published books to her credit.
Upon Malvinder Shayar's passing, Lok Chetna Manch Haryana General Secretary Krishan Singh Chitrakar, Chief Advisor Tejinder Singh Aujla, President Captain Gurmukh Singh Bhullar, Happy Singh Sethi, along with other office-bearers and members, observed a two-minute silence to pay tribute to the departed soul and extended their heartfelt condolences to the family.
