Hoshiarpur, September 30:- An agreement has been reached between the Vatavaran Bachao, Lok Bachao Sangharsh Committee and the police administration regarding the movement of tippers carrying mining material from Himachal Pradesh on the Garhshankar-Nangal Road and on the Mahilpur to Jaijon Doaba road, overloading and road safety issues. According to the agreement, tippers will not operate from 7 in the morning until 7 in the evening as per the directions of the Deputy Commissioner, and tippers will also not be allowed to operate during the daytime on other roads in the Beit area. Following this, the Vatavaran Bachao, Lok Bachao Sangharsh Committee has temporarily postponed the proposed foot protest march scheduled for October 5 and has made it clear to the police administration that if tippers operate during the daytime in violation of the decision, the way for renewed agitation will remain open.
The decision was taken following an agreement reached during a meeting between representatives of the police administration and the Sangharsh Committee at the Kokowal Majari Rest House. DSP Kamaljit Singh, Hoshiarpur, Inspector Gurpreet Singh, In-charge CIA, Inspector Gagandeep Singh Sekhon, SHO Garhshankar, and Police Post In-charge Shairin Chechi, along with other police officials, were present at the meeting.
Tippers to Remain Off the Roads from 7 AM to 7 PM
During the meeting, the Sangharsh Committee demanded that all tippers, including those bringing mining material from Himachal Pradesh, should operate according to the prescribed rules. The committee also raised the issue of unrestricted movement of tippers during the daytime, overloading, vehicles without registration numbers, and vehicles being operated without the required licences and documents. The committee also raised a case registered in Mahindwani.
The police administration agreed that the movement of tippers would remain prohibited from 7 AM to 7 PM. Tippers would also not be allowed to operate during the daytime in the Beit area. Assurance was given that the prescribed orders would be implemented on Garhshankar-Nangal Road, Nainwan Road, Haibowal Road, Bathri Road and Mahindwani Road, as well as other roads in the area. In addition, assurance was given that action would be taken according to the rules against tippers without registration numbers and drivers operating vehicles without licences or the necessary documents.
Issue of Tipper Accidents Also Raised
During the meeting, members of the Sangharsh Committee also prominently raised the issue of road accidents caused by tippers. Members of the Sangharsh Committee said that several accidents had occurred on the roads in the area due to the movement of tippers and that concern remained regarding the safety of the lives and property of ordinary people. The committee said that if the rules were strictly implemented in accordance with the assurance given by the administration and action was taken against overloading, movement of tippers during the daytime and vehicles without documents, then the situation could be addressed.
October 5 Foot March Temporarily Postponed
The Vatavaran Bachao, Lok Bachao Sangharsh Committee had announced a foot protest march on October 5 from Adda Jhungian (Binewal) to the SDM Office, Garhshankar, regarding the movement of tippers and alleged violations of rules, in order to press the administration on the issue.
Following the agreement reached during the meeting with the police administration and the assurance given by the administration, the committee decided to temporarily postpone the protest march. The committee made it clear that the action being taken by the administration would be monitored. If action was not taken according to the assurance given, the Sangharsh Committee would decide its next strategy.
During the meeting, besides DSP Kamaljit Singh, Hoshiarpur, Inspector Gurpreet Singh, In-charge CIA, Inspector Gagandeep Singh Sekhon, SHO Garhshankar, and Police Post In-charge Shairin Chechi, representatives and members of the Vatavaran Bachao, Lok Bachao Sangharsh Committee, including Ajaib Singh Boparai, former Sarpanch Devinder Rana, former Sarpanch Surinder Pal, former Sarpanch Kulbhushan Kumar, Master Pawan Sharma, Sarpanch Paramjit Singh Gadhimansowal, Panch Sushinder Rana, Bindu Bhumbla, Ramji Das Chauhan, committee member Kamal Kataria, Sanjeev Kumar, former Sarpanch Captain Bakshish Singh, Tirath Singh Mann, Guljinder Singh, committee member Mohan Lal, Mani Bildo and Ram Pal Bhardwaj Mahilpur, along with other members, were present.
