Chandigarh, December 5:- The Unity Mall to be built in Karnal, Haryana will act as a national level platform to showcase the products of MSMEs from across the country, especially those manufactured under the One District One Product initiative. The mall, which is being developed on 3.87 acres along the Grand Trunk Road in Sector-37 of the city's industrial estate at a cost of Rs 162.88 crore, has been targeted to be completed by July 2027.
Chief Secretary Mr. Anurag Rastogi today reviewed the progress of the Unity Mall project under construction in Karnal and the two working women hostels being built in Faridabad and Gurugram.
The officials were informed in the meeting that the excavation work of the project is going on at a fast pace, which is an important stage in the construction process. The Chief Secretary directed the concerned departments to strictly adhere to the approved construction timeline and maintain the highest standards of quality of work.
This project is being developed with the financial support of the Central Government and the State Government. The Chief Secretary said that the project site located on the historic Grand Trunk Road has excellent connectivity to other major northern cities including Delhi and Chandigarh.
This Unity Mall is being developed as a national level platform for showcasing and marketing MSME products from across the country, especially products of the One District One Product category. This will reduce the marketing cost of small enterprises, increase their recognition in the domestic and global markets.
Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation Managing Director Mr. Aditya Dahiya said that this Unity Mall will also act as a permanent exhibition centre for the state’s specialty products, a business-to-business networking hub and a tailor-made attraction. This project is fully in line with the policy of the Central Government to promote indigenous industries, increase market access and promote inter-state trade through high-quality infrastructure.
Chief Secretary Mr. Anurag Rastogi directed the HSIIDC and the MSME Directorate to ensure smooth and effective coordination. He appreciated the efforts being made to successfully overcome the initial challenges and maintain the momentum of the project.
While reviewing the Working Women Hostels being constructed in Sector-78, Faridabad and Sector-9, Gurugram, the Chief Secretary stressed on the need to complete these facilities of social importance within the stipulated time. He also directed the departments to expedite the civil and structural works and ensure strict adherence to safety and quality norms. Mr. Rastogi said that these hostels will provide safe, affordable and comfortable accommodation to working women, especially those coming to the NCR region for employment opportunities. He said that such facilities play a significant role in increasing the participation of women in the workforce as they provide safe accommodation, modern amenities and proximity to major employment centres.
