This visit of Al Nahyan is being considered important for India-UAE relations, where discussions on trade and investment between the two countries are expected.
United Arab Emirates (UAE) President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan arrived in New Delhi on an official visit to India on Monday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed Nahyan there. Prime Minister Modi warmly welcomed Al Nahyan at the New Delhi airport. During this, talks were also held between the two leaders. This visit of Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed is being considered important in terms of strengthening relations between India and the UAE. Issues such as bilateral cooperation, trade, investment and strategic partnership between the two countries are likely to be discussed during this visit.
PM Modi presents a pashmina shawl to Nahyan. Meanwhile, PM Modi also presented a Kashmiri pashmina shawl to UAE President Nahyan. This shawl is hand-woven from fine Kashmiri wool, which is soft, light and warm. The shawl is housed in an ornate silver box made in Telangana. This gift reflects India's handicraft and hand-carved tradition. In addition, the President's wife Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak Al Ketbi was also presented with a pashmina shawl along with Kashmiri saffron.
Grown in the Kashmir Valley, saffron is famous for its deep red colour and pungent aroma. Speaking on the occasion, Prime Minister Modi said that this visit highlights the strong friendship and cooperation between India and the UAE and he looks forward to further exchanges between the two countries.
Why is Nahyan's visit special?
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, during this visit, Prime Minister Modi and President Nahyan will discuss giving a new direction to the India-UAE Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. They will also exchange views on regional and global issues on which the two countries share broad views. This will be Nahyan's third official visit to India after becoming President.
