Ambala, December 17: Haryana Transport Minister Mr. Anil Vij said that the pedestrian route between the bus stand and railway station, located opposite each other in Ambala Cantonment, will now be smoother and easier. A modern underpass will be constructed under the GT Road, which will benefit millions of passengers and local residents.
Mr. Vij informed that the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has prepared a plan for constructing the underpass between the railway station and the bus stand. Since the underpass is to be built within the limits of both the Railways and Haryana Roadways, the Highway Authority is obtaining No Objection Certificates (NOCs) from both departments. The construction process will begin soon after receiving the NOCs.
It is noteworthy that Transport Minister Anil Vij had apprised Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari about the inconvenience faced by passengers at the railway station and bus stand and requested the construction of an underpass. Following this request, the Union Minister directed the National Highways Authority to prepare a plan and construct the underpass.
The Transport Minister said that Ambala Cantonment Railway Station is one of the busiest railway stations in North India, with millions of passengers traveling by train every day. ??Right opposite the station, on the GT Road, is the bus stand, where thousands of passengers arrive and depart on hundreds of buses. The busy National Highway runs between the two, experiencing heavy traffic, and the underpass will solve this problem.
According to the plan prepared by the National Highways Authority, the underpass will be constructed near the exit gate of the bus stand on the GT Road side, passing under the GT Road and reaching near the railway escalator. Its length will be approximately 60 meters. The underpass will have lights and other facilities, and pumps will be installed for water disposal to prevent waterlogging.
