Rahon:-National Labor Organization (NLO) Convener Baldev Bharti State Awardee said that the Punjab government is putting an unreasonable burden on the employees of the Labor Department and Rural Development and Panchayat Department to register construction sector and VB Ramji (MGNREGA) workers under the Construction Workers Welfare Board. Whereas this registration is tantamount to nothing because the online portal for registration and welfare schemes of workers has many flaws and its website often remains closed. 
Due to which the constant hassle of construction workers in service centers across Punjab is ruining their hopes and expectations. The workers who stood in queues after breaking their daily wages have to return disappointed. The workers are being harassed by frequent visits and are also being deprived of the benefits of welfare schemes. 
Baldev Bharti said that the welfare schemes of the board made for the welfare and social security of construction workers are quite good and commendable and many families have also got the benefit of them. But the process of obtaining these welfare schemes is out of reach of most of the illiterate and inexperienced workers who are deprived of the means. 
Construction workers are forced to sit at home in frustration after visiting service centers. Even the correction of minor shortcomings left due to common mistakes in this portal has become a big mountain. The seriousness of such conditions of construction workers across Punjab will have to be seen from the ground level. 
Keeping the overall situation in mind, he strongly demanded from the Punjab Government that in order to properly implement the objective of the "Construction Workers Welfare Act-1996", the related online portal should be run smoothly and arrangements should be made to have employees knowledgeable in the entire related procedure and various aspects in the service centers to prevent the harassment of construction workers.
