Chandigarh, October 23 - Haryana's Energy, Transport and Labour Minister Shri Anil Vij said that the Martyrs' Memorial under construction in Ambala Cantt, dedicated to the first freedom struggle fought in 1857, is the largest memorial in Asia. Through this memorial, people will be made aware of the truth of independence and the sacrifices of the martyrs.
He said that this memorial is likely to be inaugurated in the last week of November and he has appealed to Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi to inaugurate this huge and important Martyrs' Memorial with his blessings.
Shri Anil Vij said that a lot of cruelty took place in the first freedom struggle. People were tied to trees and shot, kept in jails for many years and many regiments were disbanded. Those brave martyrs have not received due respect till date. Their stories have not been brought before the people, their songs have not been sung and no special day has been celebrated for their sacrifice. They have made continuous efforts and struggle to bring this truth to light.
He said that the Shaheed Smarak is almost ready now. It is likely to be inaugurated in the last week of November. Mr. Vij said that since this memorial is very large and important, he has requested Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi to inaugurate this Shaheed Smarak with the Prime Minister's blessings.
