Karnal, May 18:- The menace of stray dogs continues to escalate in the Gharaunda region of the district. On Sunday night, in Balinagar (Ward-7), a stray dog ??attacked a 55-year-old elderly man standing outside his home, viciously mauling his face. The critically injured man was first admitted to the government hospital in Gharaunda and subsequently transferred to the government hospital in Karnal. Following the incident, local residents and elected representatives have raised questions regarding the functioning of the municipal administration.
Late Sunday night, 55-year-old Sommi Ram was standing outside his home in Balinagar, located in Ward-7 of Gharaunda, when a stray dog ??suddenly attacked him. The dog bit the elderly man severely on the face, inflicting deep wounds across his forehead and facial area. The attack was so brutal that flesh was torn from his face, resulting in profuse bleeding.

**Dog Chased Away Using Sticks and Clubs:**
Alerted by the commotion, neighbors rushed to the scene and managed to chase the dog away using sticks and clubs. The injured man was then immediately rushed to the government hospital in Gharaunda. Due to the severity of his condition, doctors referred him to the government hospital in Karnal. Following treatment, he has now been discharged from the hospital, and doctors have advised him to observe a few days of bed rest.
According to the doctors, stitches were not applied to the dog bite wounds, as there is a high risk of infection spreading in such cases. Meanwhile, Municipal Secretary Ravi Prakash Sharma stated that the construction of a dog shelter is in its final stages. Additionally, the sterilization program for stray dogs is set to commence within the next two weeks, for which tenders have already been issued.
