Jaito, December 11:- The Shiromani Akali Dal today appealed to the State Election Commission to extend the time for voting in the Block Samiti and Zila Parishad elections on December 14 from 7.00 am to 5.00 pm. In an appeal to the State Election Commission, senior leader of the Shiromani Akali Dal Dr. Daljit Singh Cheema said that the current time limit for voting has been fixed from 8.00 am to 4.00 pm, which is very less.
He said that due to the limited time limit, poor families, farmers and daily wage earners will be deprived of exercising their democratic rights. Due to which the voting rate will decrease. Dr. Cheema stressed that the State Election Commission should ensure that maximum voter turnout is observed in the elections of Panchayati Raj institutions.
He said that with the extension of time, all sections of the society will be able to exercise their right to vote. He said that along with the deployment of observers, adequate security should also be deployed to ensure free and fair elections.
