Chandigarh, June 14:- Haryana Chief Minister Mr. Naib Singh Saini said that the greatness of any society is not measured by its economic prosperity, but by its behavior towards the weak, helpless and needy people. A society that cares about its deprived and needy class is truly a progressive and sensitive society.
Chief Minister Mr. Naib Singh Saini was addressing as the chief guest at the 346th monthly widow ration and assistance distribution ceremony organized at the Gyan Sthal Mandir in Ludhiana, Punjab on Sunday. On this occasion, he also announced a grant of Rs. 11 lakh to the Gyan Sthal Mandir Seva Society.
The Chief Minister paid homage to the immortal martyr Lala Jagat Narayan and said that he dedicated his entire life to patriotism, social harmony and human service. He made the supreme sacrifice to protect the unity and integrity of the country. He said that the legacy of Lala Jagat Narayan ji's service, dedication and sense of national interest is being carried forward today by the Gyan Sthal Mandir Seva Society and Lala Jagat Narayan Nishkam Seva Samiti.
A unique campaign of continuous service for 346 months
The Chief Minister said that this service campaign started by the late Jagdish Bajaj in the year 1997 has today taken the form of a huge public welfare movement. Providing assistance to needy widowed mothers and sisters for 346 consecutive months is a commendable achievement in itself. On this occasion, the Chief Minister also appreciated the 64th relief material truck sent today for the families affected by terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir.
He said that the organization has so far distributed ration to more than 1 lakh 65 thousand needy widow families. Even in challenging times like the Covid-19 pandemic, the volunteers of the organization went door to door to provide assistance to the needy families. Apart from this, the organization has provided tricycles to 385 differently-abled persons, distributed sewing machines to more than 1 lakh 15 thousand women and provided computer education to more than 25 thousand children, giving a new direction to their future.
The Chief Minister said that the organization is not limited to just distributing assistance, but is also continuously working to make women and youth self-reliant. Its initiatives to promote skill development and self-employment are becoming a medium for positive change in the society.
Haryana Government is committed to women empowerment
Chief Minister Shri Naib Singh Saini said that the Haryana Government is running many public welfare schemes for the social, economic and educational strengthening of mothers, sisters and daughters. A monthly pension of Rs 3,200 is being provided to widows in the state. Under the Deendayal Lado Laxmi Yojana, assistance of Rs 2,100 per month is being provided to eligible women, while under the 'Har Ghar-Har Grihani' scheme, gas cylinders are being made available for Rs 500.
He said that women are being made economically and socially strong through the Chief Minister's Viya Shagun Yojana, Lakhpati Didi Abhiyan, strengthening of self-help groups and various schemes related to women's safety and education. Along with this, 81 new colleges have been opened in the state, out of which 31 colleges have been established especially for girl students. The state government is providing free education to girls up to post-graduate level, so that they can become self-reliant through education.
The Chief Minister said that the real purpose of politics is not just to gain power, but to do good to the person standing at the last stage of society and to keep the national interest supreme. He said that this campaign to provide assistance to widowed mothers and sisters in Ludhiana is an inspiring effort towards realizing the concept of Anthondeya. Such social organizations are giving a new direction to the society by strengthening the spirit of national service, humanity and public welfare.
On this occasion, representatives of various social, religious and public service organizations including Padma Shri Vijay Chopra, Chief Editor of Punjab Kesari, Jalandhar, Padma Shri Rajni Bector, office bearers of Gyan Sthal Mandir Seva Society, esteemed personalities and a large number of beneficiaries were present.
