Ludhiana 19th November 2025- Shri Sandeep N Mahatme, Private Secretary, Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying Minister visited the Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University. Dr. Jatinder Pal Singh Gill, Vice-Chancellor briefed him about the teaching, research and extension initiatives of the university. Shri Mahatme was taken on a tour of various colleges and farms of the university.
Which included fish farming farms, dairy farms, embryo transfer technology labs and advanced laboratories. Scientists briefed him about the initiatives being taken regarding breed improvement, milk, fish and meat processing technologies and with the aim of increasing the productivity and profitability of animal husbandry. Shri Mahatme appreciated the treatment facilities being provided at the multi-specialty veterinary hospital.
Where he appreciated the quality of veterinary inspection and treatment services. He appreciated the commitment of the university towards farmers’ welfare and encouraged them to further extend emergency services to the doorsteps of the farmers.
Dr Gill stressed that the University is continuously working to uplift the livestock and fisheries sectors of the state. He informed that the Krishi Vigyan Kendra and Regional Research and Training Centres of the university are actively transferring technologies to farmers, conducting training, exhibitions, animal health camps and providing support at the field level in rural Punjab.
University officials and teachers were present throughout the visit, who contributed to the discussion on strategies to improve animal health, production and farmer income.
Shri Sandeep Mahatme expressed satisfaction over the progress of the university and assured continued support for initiatives related to livestock development, farmers’ welfare and environmental sustainability. He also visited some commercial dairy farms in Punjab to get information about the dairy farming practices being adopted by the farmers. He was very impressed with the progress made by the state in the field of dairy farming.
