Chandigarh, September 11:- Haryana Minister for Cooperation, Prisons, Tourism, Heritage and Elections, Dr. Arvind Sharma, said that on the occasion of Prime Minister Narendra Modi completing 25 years of service, dedication and nation-building in public life, the ‘Seva Sankalp Campaign’ will be conducted in the state’s jails from September 17 to October 17. During this period, activities related to plantation drives, blood donation camps, yoga, health and spiritual activities, along with education and reform, will be organized in the jails. Maximum participation of inmates in the campaign will be ensured.
Taking the message of service and positive thinking to the jails
Dr. Arvind Sharma said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while giving priority to service in his public life, has emphasized making every section of society a partner in nation-building. The same message will be taken to the jails during the Seva Sankalp Campaign. Plantation drives will convey the message of environmental conservation, blood donation the message of service, yoga the message of health, and spiritual activities the message of positive thinking.
Directions to prepare jail-wise programmes
The Jail Minister has directed all jail authorities in the state to prepare jail-wise programmes for the effective completion of the campaign. He said that the outline of various activities to be conducted in every jail from September 17 to October 17 should be prepared in advance so that programmes can be organized continuously throughout the month. The campaign should not be limited to a single event; rather, the nature of activities should be decided keeping in view the facilities available in the jails and the participation of inmates.
Interaction to be held with young inmates
During the campaign, special interactions will also be held with young inmates pursuing education in the jails. During these interactions, their views will be shared on subjects such as service, education, future, skills and returning to the mainstream of society, and they will be given an opportunity to put forward their views and suggestions. The Jail Minister has directed officials to ensure the active participation of such inmates.
Focus on education and reform-related activities
Dr. Arvind Sharma said that activities related to education and reform are already being conducted in the jails, and during the Seva Sankalp Campaign, the participation of inmates associated with these activities will be further increased. In the state’s jails, along with training in various ITI trades, programmes related to IGNOU, open schooling and literacy are also being conducted.
He said that the objective of the campaign is to further strengthen the positive atmosphere in the jails and motivate inmates to connect with the mainstream of society through service, education, health, environmental conservation and spiritual activities.
