Hoshiarpur:- Youth Citizen Council Punjab has opposed the government's decision to divide Hoshiarpur district and create a new district named Shri Anandpur Sahib and merge Garhshankar tehsil with it. Youth Citizen Council State President Dr. Raman Ghai said that making Shri Anandpur Sahib a district is a commendable step which will be welcomed not only in Punjab but also at the national and international level.
However, due to the ineffective policy of the government, the residents of Hoshiarpur are having to take the path of struggle to express their views. Dr. Ghai said that if the Punjab government changes the name of Rupnagar to Shri Anandpur Sahib, it will be welcomed all over the world and no part of any other district will have to be cut, because Shri Anandpur Sahib is already present as a tehsil of Rupnagar district.
He said that just as Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had renamed Ayodhya tehsil of Faizabad district as a district while making it a district, in the same way other historical places of the country have also been given a new status.
Dr. Ghai said that Khuralgarh located in Garhshankar is the land touched by the feet of Shri Guru Ravidas Ji Maharaj, which further elevates the glory of the district and has a deep connection with the feelings of devotees living in the country and abroad. Therefore, the Youth Citizen Council Punjab will extend full support to the struggle being waged by the District Bar Association to save Hoshiarpur.
Finally, Dr. Raman Ghai has appealed to Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann that before declaring Shri Anandpur Sahib district, no part of Hoshiarpur should be cut off and a new district of Shri Anandpur Sahib should be declared at the place of Rupnagar, so that the sentiments of the residents of Hoshiarpur are respected and the historical identity of the district is maintained.
Rupnagar should be renamed as Shri Anandpur Sahib Hoshiarpur should not be shortened Dr Raman Ghai
