Garhshankar- Rotary Eye Bank and Corneal Transplant Society Hoshiarpur are celebrating Eye Donation Fortnight and a seminar on eye donation was organized at Babbar Akali Memorial Khalsa College Garhshankar. On this occasion, Chairman of the Society J.B. Bahl said that Rotary Eye Bank and Corneal Transplant Society are working to brighten the lives of people who are deprived of their eyesight due to damaged iris across the country.
He said that the society is working to replace the iris without any cost. He said that the number of people deprived of their eyesight due to damaged iris across the country is in the millions, but compared to that, the number of people who donate their eyes after death is negligible. He appealed to the people to contribute to the work of service by becoming a part of the eye donation campaign.
Dr. Tarsem Singh, Chairman of the Body Donation Committee of the Society, while shedding light on the process of eye donation, said that after the death of a person who fills the pledge to donate eyes while alive, his eyes (eyes) will be donated by the family. He said that one eye donation can brighten the lives of two blind people. He said that eyes can be donated within 6-7 hours of the death of the eye donor.
He said that the society has brightened the lives of 4118 blind people so far. He shed light on the process of posthumous body donation and said that after the death of any person, his body can be donated to medical colleges for student research. Prof. Daljit Singh, in his address on behalf of the Society, said that there is no place for superstitions in the process of eye donation.
He said that many people are hindering noble deeds like eye donation through superstitions. He said that eye donation is not prohibited in any religion of the world. Dr. Lakhwinder Billon shared his views on eye donation and rational leader Dr. Joginder Kullewal warned the students against superstitions and urged them to adopt scientific thinking.
College Principal Dr. Amandeep Hira welcomed the entire team of Rotary Eye Bank and assured the college of contributing to the eye donation campaign and signing an MOU with Rotary Eye Bank. Prof. Kanwar Kulwant Singh thanked the team for arriving on behalf of the college and motivated the students to be a part of the campaign.
Superintendent Parminder Singh inaugurated the stage. Dr. Rajiv Sharma, Ashwini Dutta, Prof. Gurpreet Singh Kalsi, Dr. Naresh Kumari, Onkar Singh Chahalpuri, Bhupinder Singh Rana, DK Rajan, Raman and students were present on this occasion.
