Karnal, December 31: District Red Cross Society Secretary Kulbir Malik said that under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner and District Red Cross Society President Uttam Singh, the district branch of the Indian Red Cross Society is a leading organization working in the social sector. From April 2025 to December 2025, the organization provided 174 motorized tricycles, 20 wheelchairs, 22 hearing aids, and 70 artificial limbs/devices worth Rs. 1.25 crore free of cost to disabled persons. In addition, in collaboration with social organizations such as NIFA, NSO, and blood donation camp organizers Kapil and Ashok Verma, 132 blood donation camps were organized, collecting 8538 units of blood, which were provided to the blood banks of Civil Hospital, Karnal and Kalpana Chawla Government Medical College, Karnal.
He further informed that under the TB awareness campaign, the District Red Cross Society, in collaboration with the Health Department of Haryana, is raising awareness among people about TB and providing nutritional kits to TB patients. 14 TB awareness camps were organized at various locations in the district (Salarpura, New Grain Market, Mangal Colony, Valmiki Basti, Uncha Samana, Jhanjhadi, and Sugar Mill, etc.), and 90 TB patients were provided with nutritional kits free of cost.
He also stated that the District Red Cross Society regularly conducts anti-drug campaigns to educate people about the ill effects of drug abuse and administers pledges to refrain from drug use, thereby contributing to making society drug-free. 15 anti-drug awareness camps were organized at various locations in the district (Dayal Singh College, Government School, Uchana, DAV School, Indri Road, Karnal, etc.). During the winter season, the society distributed 105 blankets to poor, helpless, and homeless people and encouraged them to use night shelters. He informed that under the T.I. Project run by the Red Cross Society, high-risk groups are made aware of HIV/AIDS, and misconceptions surrounding it are dispelled through camps. Under the T.I. Project, 1847 HIV/AIDS tests, 1998 VDRL tests, and 3909 general medical checkups were conducted, and HIV/AIDS awareness and health checkup camps were organized at various locations in the district (Mangal Colony, Ramnagar, Sugar Mill, Uncha Samana, Baldi).
He further informed that the District Red Cross Society, in collaboration with the Indian Red Cross Society, Haryana State Branch, Chandigarh, organized a five-day Junior Red Cross training camp at Infinity Public School, Kachhwa, from December 1st to December 5th. 120 students from various schools in Karnal district participated in the camp. Experts provided information on the history of the Red Cross, disaster management, drug de-addiction, misuse of mobile phones, first aid, healthy lifestyle, and the annual activities of Karnal district.
He also informed that the District Red Cross Society, Karnal, in collaboration with the Indian Red Cross Society, Haryana State Branch, Chandigarh, organized a five-day Youth Red Cross training camp at Dayal Singh College from November 10th to 14th. 120 students from various colleges in Karnal district participated in the camp. Experts provided information on the history of the Red Cross, disaster management, drug de-addiction, misuse of mobile phones, first aid, healthy lifestyle, and the annual activities of Karnal district.
He also informed that the District Red Cross Society, Karnal, celebrated Van Mahotsav Week from July 1st to July 7th, 2025. The objective of celebrating Van Mahotsav was to involve local people in the tree plantation drive and spread environmental awareness. During this week, fruit-bearing trees were planted in the Red Cross office grounds and other nearby offices. In addition, the society provided general first aid training to 14,077 individuals, basic first aid training to 790 individuals, CPR training to 80 individuals, first aid training to 293 factory workers, and disaster and first aid training to 94 individuals between April 2025 and December 2025.
