Hoshiarpur: In a press note issued by former Cabinet Minister and senior BJP leader Tikshan Sood, it was stated that the vandalism inflicted upon the statue of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar—the architect of India's Constitution—yesterday in Noorpur Jattan village (Hoshiarpur district), along with the shameless rhetoric regarding the incident by Gurpatwant Singh Pannun—a radical associated with 'Sikhs for Justice' and based in the USA—deserves the strongest possible condemnation; no amount of criticism is sufficient.
He remarked that Dr. Ambedkar, the architect of the Indian Constitution, is one of the most revered and acknowledged luminaries across the entire nation. It is solely thanks to the Constitution he drafted that India has evolved into the world's largest democracy. What is particularly alarming is that a similar incident involving the desecration of Dr. Ambedkar's statue has occurred previously in this very village, Noorpur. Yet, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government—which rose to power invoking Dr. Ambedkar's name—has, to date, failed to apprehend the culprits responsible for that earlier incident.
This time, too, the perpetrators have committed this despicable act with brazen defiance. Mr. Sood asserted that the law and order situation in Punjab has deteriorated to such an extent that individuals can commit any crime without fear or apprehension, while the government appears helpless in taking punitive action.
The desecration of Dr. Ambedkar's statue constitutes a heinous attempt—not merely to dismantle India's constitutional framework—but specifically to foment unrest within Punjab. He has appealed for strict action to be taken against the culprits.
