Nawanshahr:- Lok Sabha member Malwinder Singh Kang said on Wednesday that the Punjab government is fully committed to eradicate drugs from the society and is running a campaign with determination to restore the glory of ‘Rangla Punjab’ under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann.
Presiding over a review meeting under the state government’s anti-drug campaign ‘War Against Drugs’, Mr. Kang said that the fight against drugs is no longer limited to government agencies alone, but has become a widespread public movement. He said that people from all sections of the society are supporting this campaign, which is giving strength to the collective resolve to make Punjab drug-free.
Deputy Commissioner Gulpreet Singh Aulakh, Chairman Improvement Trust Satnam Singh Jalwaha, SSP SBS Nagar Tushar Gupta, Additional Deputy Commissioner Avneet Kaur, SDM SBS Nagar Amanjot Kaur and AAP District President Robby Kang were present.
The MP said that the state government has adopted a multi-pronged strategy to tackle this challenge. While law enforcement agencies have stepped up action against drug smugglers and traders, equal emphasis is also being laid on the rehabilitation of people struggling with drug addiction. He said that the government is working to ensure that people affected by drugs get a chance to return to a dignified and productive life.
Mr. Kang said that the administration is also focusing on preventive measures and encouraging the youth to engage in sports, education, skill development, employment and other constructive activities. He said that meaningful opportunities for the youth are essential to keep them away from drugs and build a healthy society.
Appreciating the contribution of Village Raksha Committees and Ward Raksha Committees, the MP said that their members are working fearlessly at the grassroots level and are playing a vital role in identifying and preventing drug related activities. He urged them to further strengthen their efforts and maintain close coordination with the civil and police administration.
During the meeting, the district administration and police officers, district and block coordinators reviewed the measures being taken under the anti-drug campaign. Mr. Kang also reviewed the ongoing action taken by the district police against drug peddlers.
Appreciating the coordinated efforts of the civil and police administration, he expressed confidence that with the participation of the public, Punjab will uproot the menace of drugs and will continuously move towards progress and prosperity.
Earlier, Doaba in-charge of Nasha Mukti Morcha (Zonal Coordinator War on Drugs) Atin Agnihotri welcomed the chief guest and other dignitaries.
On this occasion, District Coordinator Dinesh Suri, District Vice Coordinator Baljit Ram, Prabhjot Singh Banga, Inderjit Kumar, Beant Singh, Vishal Khosla, Baljot Singh, MC Shivram Kaith and Atma Ram etc. were also present.
