Hoshiarpur:- MLA Brahm Shankar Jimpa said that the budget for 2026-27 presented by the Punjab government is dedicated to public welfare and overall development. He said that fulfilling the promise made by the Mann government, a guarantee of Rs 1,000 per month has been implemented in the budget for all women above the age of 18 years, while women from Scheduled Castes will get Rs 1,500 per month.
Jimpa said that this financial assistance will provide significant support to women from ordinary families for household expenses. This scheme is a big step towards the dignity and economic empowerment of women. He said that the registration for this scheme will start from April 13, Baisakhi and it will be the first such scheme in the country in which there will be no condition for availing the benefits.
MLA Jimpa said that agriculture and agri-sectors have also been given special priority in the budget. The budget for the agriculture sector for the year 2026-27 has been increased by 6 percent, with an amount of Rs 15,377 crore provided, which will help increase the income of farmers and strengthen the agriculture sector. Jimpa said that one lakh more houses will be added under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Rural).
For this, an amount of Rs 800 crore has been allocated in the budget, which will help provide permanent houses to poor families. He said that the government has also made special arrangements for the expansion of the "Rangla Punjab" development scheme. The budget of this scheme has been increased by double the amount i.e. Rs 1,170 crore compared to the previous year, which will further accelerate the development work in the state.
