Haroli/Una, April 21 (Rajveer Chopra):— Taking a significant step towards strengthening water conservation in the Haroli Assembly constituency, Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri on Tuesday formally performed the *Bhoomi Pujan* (groundbreaking ceremony) for the renovation work of a rainwater harvesting reservoir in Beetan village, being constructed at a cost of ?2.03 crore. The project is targeted for completion within six months.
The Deputy Chief Minister stated that, guided by the vision that "progress and nature must advance together," water conservation in Haroli is being transformed into a mass movement. Comprehensive and concrete efforts are being undertaken on a large scale to bolster rainwater harvesting infrastructure.
Citing the example of a pond constructed in Pubowal at a cost of approximately ?2 crore, he described it as a successful model. Additionally, renovation work on ponds is proceeding rapidly in several areas, including Gondpur Jaichand, Dulaihar, and Hiran Thada.
He informed that a comprehensive rejuvenation of ancient *tobas* (ponds) and water bodies is currently underway across the region at an estimated cost of ?20 crore. These water sources are being developed into modern, aesthetically pleasing, and multi-purpose reservoirs; this initiative not only ensures the preservation of traditional water sources but also guarantees future water security.
The Deputy Chief Minister noted that, at one time, these *tobas* served as the primary pillars for rainwater harvesting, livestock drinking water, and irrigation; however, due to neglect, their significance had diminished. Now, they are being revitalized through the application of modern technology. Landscaping, the creation of walking paths, and beautification works are also being undertaken around these ponds, thereby adding a new charm to the rural landscape and aiding in the stabilization of groundwater levels.
He asserted that this initiative in Haroli is emerging as a powerful testament to the balance between development, heritage, and the future—a place where a strong foundation for water conservation is being laid for generations to come. On this occasion, Block Congress President Sandeep Agnihotri, along with other dignitaries and local villagers, were present.
