Kapurthala:- World-renowned poet, social activist, and Chairman of the District Traders Commission (Excise and Taxation Department), Kanwar Iqbal Singh, has been seriously injured in a lift accident. He suffered a broken hip after the lift fell from the third floor to the basement, while four other individuals were also injured. Following this incident, literary and social circles have raised questions about the performance of the Global Lift Company, demanding a thorough investigation and strict action.
Prof. Kulwant Singh Aujla, Patron of Sirjana Kendra Kapurthala, stated that modern facilities are meant to make human life easier, but negligence can prove fatal. He prayed for Kanwar Iqbal Singh’s speedy recovery.
Dr. Asa Singh Ghuman stated that there should be an impartial investigation into the technical failure of the lift installed at Ratan Super Store near Nawan Pind Bhatta. He added that it must also be investigated whether substandard or duplicate materials were used in the lift.
At the time of the accident, Kanwar Iqbal Singh, Traders Commission members Mandeep Singh Ghuman and Manjit Singh, the owner of the Super Store, and one other person were in the lift. Kanwar Iqbal Singh suffered a fractured hip, while two members suffered leg fractures. All the injured are currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Jalandhar.
Lok Sahit Kala Kendra, IPTA Punjab, and other literary organizations have demanded that the entire medical expenditure of the victims and appropriate compensation be provided by the Global Lift Company. Furthermore, an appeal has been made to ensure public safety by conducting safety inspections of all lifts installed in private and government institutions across the state.
