Chandigarh, 26 September:- Kavi Manch (Regd.), Mohali, in collaboration with Punjab Secretariat Sahitya Sabha (Regd.), Chandigarh, organised a discussion on Dhian Singh Kahlon’s song collection ‘Tetrey Metrey Bol’. Dr. Labh Singh Kheewa participated as the chief guest, while Malkiat Singh Aujla was the special guest. The event was presided over by Bhagat Ram Ranghara.
The programme began with singer Gurinder Guri presenting Dhian Singh Kahlon’s songs, ‘Sajjna Manaaven Ve Tu Lohrian-Diwalian’ and ‘Mitti Da Sareer Mitti Rul Jaana Ae’, in melody. Participating in the discussion, eminent writer and journalist Surjit Suman said that Dhian Singh Kahlon is a continuously flowing river of songwriting. He writes songs, sings them and also lives the songs. He said that the lyricist has used the word ‘Bol’ in his songs in a distinctive and special manner.
Eminent journalist Gurpreet Singh Niamian spoke about his long association with Kahlon, saying that at one time they used to sing duet songs on stage, while now he is an admirer of the songs being written by Kahlon. He said that the Sikh Gurus also gave the status of Guru to wind and the Word, and therefore ‘Shabad’ and ‘Bol’ hold the highest place.
Raj Kumar Sahowalia, while presenting his paper, said that from Kahlon’s first song collection ‘Rasile Bol’, through ‘Tambvein Bol’ and now ‘Tetrey Bol’, he has been a witness to every word. Presenting the various shades of Kahlon’s songwriting before the audience, he said that although writing songs is a difficult task, Kahlon also pays full attention to melody and rhythm along with writing songs. His songs reflect multifaceted knowledge and carry one message or another.
Lyricist Dhian Singh Kahlon presented his self-composed songs, including ‘Kahlon Dub Jaanian’, ‘Zindagi Band Lifafa Mittra Kholin Na’, ‘Dade-Pote Da Pyar’ and ‘Ohad-Pohad Kari Jawan Zindagi Jiun Lai’, among others. He also thanked all those who attended. Malkiat Singh Aujla recited ‘Sama Hunda Hai Bada Balwan Loko’, highlighting the importance of time, and then presented the song ‘Har Vele Phone ’Ch Warya Rehnain’, making the atmosphere pleasant.
Sukhwant Kahlon said that his father is a very responsible person, due to whose efforts he and his family have achieved success. Bhagat Ram Ranghara praised Kahlon’s songwriting, nature and dedication, saying that along with being a lyricist, he is also a good human being. He presented Kahlon with financial assistance of Rs 5,000. Similarly, Malkiat Singh Aujla presented Rs 2,100, while Ranjit Kaur Kang Tiwana, who is always committed to preserving Punjab, Punjabi, Punjabiat and culture, also presented him a shagun.
On the occasion, Amarjit Kaur Morinda and Bhupinder Singh Bhagomajra presented songs. Journalist Gurjit Singh Lamba and Advocate Neelam Narang also addressed the gathering. Chief guest Dr. Labh Singh Kheewa said that he has a very old relationship with Kahlon and that there is maturity in his songwriting. He said that the Vedas, Puranas and scriptures have all been composed in poetry. Songwriting is a very old literary form. Human beings began speaking first, while the written word came much later. Kahlon’s songwriting revolves around the word ‘Bol’.
He said that it is these songs that enrich our literature and culture. The मंच honoured Dr. Labh Singh Kheewa, Malkiat Singh Aujla, Dhian Singh Kahlon, Raj Kumar Sahowalia, Gurpreet Singh Niamian, Surjit Suman, Gurinder Guri and Ranjit Kaur Kang Tiwana with shawls and mementoes.
Storyteller Gurmeet Singal, Mahinder Singh Kalsi, Jaswinder Singh Kainaur, Piara Singh Rahi, Sarabjit Singh Padda, Dr Panna Lal Mustafabadi, Gursharan Singh Kaka, Sumittar Singh Dost, Babu Ram Diwana and a large number of literature lovers participated in the event.
