Patiala, June 24:- Patiala Social Welfare Society, established in the year 2000, is celebrating its Silver Jubilee Year this year. On this occasion, Municipal Corporation Patiala Commissioner Mrs. Pooja Sial Grewal (PCS) inspected the cloth and jute bags prepared by the society and motivated the people to stop using plastic bags.
She said that Patiala Social Welfare Society has been making people aware for the last 17-18 years to use cloth and jute bags instead of plastic bags. She said that food and drink items kept in plastic bags can spoil quickly and can also prove harmful to health. This increases the risk of many diseases.
Pooja Sial Grewal said that in the old days, people used to go to the market with cloth bags and bring goods in them, which took care of the environment as well as health. Today, there is a need to adopt the same culture again.
She said that the society is continuously working for the good of the society and is making people aware for a plastic-free environment. Till now, the society has distributed about one and a half lakh cloth and jute bags among the people, so that people can use them while shopping and avoid the harm caused by plastic.
On this occasion, Patiala Social Welfare Society President Vijay Goel, Superintendent Vishal Puri, Krishan Kakkar and other dignitaries were present.
